All three models mix with a sieve or snap-fit insert instead of a loose ball, which keeps shakes free of lumps. The manufacturer specifies a leak-proof lid for the Steel Shaker. The plastic models are lighter and cheaper; the Steel Shaker is vacuum insulated and keeps cold drinks cool for longer. None of the models are intended for hot liquids — not even the insulated Steel Shaker.

Buying a protein shaker — what to look for

Four things decide whether a shaker survives a year in a gym bag: a lid that really seals, a mixing insert instead of a bare ball, an odour resistant material, and parts you can take apart to clean. Cleaning and care

Rinse the shaker right after use — dried protein is the reason most shakers start to smell. Take it apart: lid, bottle and snap-fit insert clean separately, and residue sits in the thread otherwise. For stubborn residue, soak briefly in warm water with a drop of washing-up liquid. The manufacturer explicitly recommends hand washing the Premium Shaker MAX and rates the Steel Shaker as dishwasher safe up to 40 °C while still advising hand washing to protect the powder coating — so we recommend hand washing for every model. Store the shaker open so it dries out completely.

The Premium Shaker and the Steel Shaker hold 700 ml, the Premium Shaker MAX holds 900 ml.

Is the shaker dishwasher safe?

The manufacturer rates the Steel Shaker as dishwasher safe up to 40 °C but recommends hand washing to protect the coating. For the Premium Shaker MAX it recommends hand washing; for the Premium Shaker it gives no dishwasher information. We therefore recommend hand washing for every model.

Is it leak proof?

The manufacturer specifies a leak-proof sports lid for the Steel Shaker. For the Premium Shaker and the Premium Shaker MAX it gives no such information — carry them upright if in doubt.

What is the difference between the plastic and the steel shaker?

The steel model is double walled and keeps cold drinks cool for longer; the plastic model is lighter and cheaper.

Can I use hot drinks?

No. The manufacturer states that the shakers are not suitable for hot liquids — this includes the insulated Steel Shaker.
